Tips
for a
Successful Swap
** these are just tips and not necessarily set guidelines or
requirements for a swap **
Don't Overdo Yourself: Stick
with patterns that are within your skill level and you
enjoy. You can choose one pattern for all your pieces, or
you can make as many different varieties as you like, as long as
they fall within the guidelines and requirements for the
swap. Some swaps do require a certain pattern. It is
a good idea to ask for the pattern in advance to joining the
swap to see that it is within your skill level.
Pace Yourself: Sometimes you
will receive pieces from other participants early in the swap,
way before the due date. Don't let this stress you into
hurrying your work. Make as many as you can each week, and
only send out what you can afford at a time. Most swaps
are allowed enough time to be well within many budgets.
Just remember to have them all mailed by the
deadline.
Large Mailing List Idea (20+ members to
a group): Most swap address lists are mailed out by
carbon copies, where everyone receives the same mail with the
participants listed in the same order. A good tip to
follow is to start your mailing out by sending to the first
person listed below you and work your way through to the end of
the list, continuing at the beginning of the list until you come
back to your name. This makes it so everyone can get
pieces sooner, for if everyone started with the top person and
worked their way down in that format, the last people listed on
the swap list won't receive their pieces until much much later
than the rest of us.
Let others know you got their items: A lot of
the swaps now require the participants to e-mail or mail
those that sent items to you that you did receive them ok.
It's more of a courtesy than a requirement, but a very good idea
to follow. In return you will be informed when others get
your items.
Share your ideas: If you have a
good tip to share, let your coordinator know so they may be able
to have it part of the swap. If you have an idea we can
post here, please e-mail us so we can
include it on our page. All suggestions are welcome! :)
